Is TWITTER just for techno-geeks or can it really build your brand and your business?

A couple of weeks ago, I followed the lead of several of my colleagues in the blogosphere and decided to join Twitter. I was reluctant at first because I thought this was the most absurd and useless tool ever created.  But after being on Twitter for the past two weeks, I am addicted!

By answering the simple question “What are you doing?” Twitter allows you to keep your friends (known as “followers” in this case) up to date on the most interesting aspects of your day—the trick is, you have to do it in 140 characters or less.

Is Twitter just for techno-geeks? Absolutely not.   Heavy hitters such as Southwest Airlines, NBC, Oprah Winfrey and Barack Obama are “tweeting.”

In essence, Twitter is an easy-to-use microblogging platform perfect for those who want to get their message out fast. It’s also a quick way to build up loyal followers and potential customers.

Want to follow me on Twitter? Click here.  You’ll get a peek at my daily media exploits, speaking engagements and even what happens behind the scenes when I’m on the set of my TV show. You’ll also see how I use it to position myself as an expert, draw people to this blog and connect with media professionals from around the world.

Want to learn about how Twitter can work for you?  My friend Joan Stewart, the “Publicity Hound” has written a special report on it. She just released it yesterday.   For just ten bucks she tells you:

- Why Twitter is one of the most powerful and cheapest marketing tools on the planet
- How savvy companies and nonprofits are using it in creative ways to attract customers for life
- How to search for niche audiences on Twitter so you can connect with your most ideal customers and followers
- How to promote your products and services without going overboard

The report is available for instant download once your purchase is approved: Click here and scroll all the way down to Special Report #52.

Let me know when you sign on to Twitter so I can follow you! Happy Tweeting!

  • Welcome to the Twitter World, Monique.

Today is my first anniversary on Twitter, which makes me a moderate techno-geek. In one year I’ve seen Twitter go from a very geeky application that a few friends were just playing with to a fully-embraced communication style that has multiple companion applications and uses.

You and your readers might also be interested in Brightkite, a location-aware version of Twitter; or possibly TwitPhoto, the name states the obvious; or TwitterPhone to send a Tweet via voice (or Jott, which also sends emails from voice); or maybe even Summize to track subjects or people that are being discussed on Twitter from anywhere in the world (give Obama, McCain, or Clinton a try, I’ll guarantee you’ll see constant tweets).

Good luck and have fun with Twitter. Please keep us updated on how you are using it in your daily news activities.
