What you are about to read was a comment that “ton mow” tried to post to this blog. Instead of having it be buried in the sea of other comments, I decided to create a separate post to drive home the fact that racism is real and to suggest that the media could be propogating it.
I could name numerous examples of how the media does this, but let’s just stick with the Obama/Wright debacle. By constantly portraying Wright as this unpatriotic hate-mongerer, they are driving a wedge between the American people who over the last 15 months, had finally started to look beyond race as exemplified by their overwhelming willingness to vote for Barack Obama. But by reducing Rev. Wright to a sound bite, the media has once again caused the very painful, complicated and delicate issue of race to resurface, causing many to turn their backs on Obama.
It is apparent that the person who sent this post sees the Obama/Wright issue through a very fearful and dare I say, uninformed lens:
Someone said if Obama wins all the hate mongering preachers and the free ride affirmative action programs will end. Thats why Wright and all the other scum like Al Sharpton dread the day a black man becomes president. They are getting rich playing the race card.
Notice how racist blacks are. One day their scum leader Obama says Wright is ok but after Wright attacks Obama saying he is a typical politician now tthe the cult leader Obama denounces Wright now the blacks backtrack aaying Wright is bad for Obama. But they never say Wright is wrong. Blacks really are bad. If you think whites are to blame for all the murders they do to each other in the cities which by the way are over 300 a day in America then you belong with the blacks. But you will dread the day when your surrounded by blacks and they kill your family or beat you to death. Just ask Hillary now they are calling her racist after she did everything to help blacks just for votes…
See, this is the type of racist tom-foolery that we have to deal with all too often. Ideas like this become magnified when people are afraid or feel threatened. The cultural “scaredy-cats” start to say “Oh my God! A black man for president!? Now I’ll lose what little sense of power I have–now,I could possibly lose my white privilege! OH NOOOOOO!….” Thus, the racist ideologies are born, mainly as a defense mechanism.
I could go sentence by sentence pointing out the inconsistencies and outright lies in the quote above, but what’s the point? Why waste my time? The above quote is a symbol of the ignorance that unfortunately permeates our society and the media is doing nothing but making it worse.
Hopefully one day we’ll be able to have an honest yet spirited debate on race (one where people don’t have to shed blood or lose their lives). In the meantime you can express your views here and ward off the ignorant scaredy cats as best you can.

Interesting post.
The most important debate on race is how relevant we make it. The media’s “race” polls don’t help the issue. Race is a socially constructed abstract, and racism won’t dissipate until more people give less relevance to a person’s skin melanin levels.

I understand your frustration. At my blog I am exploring issues concerning culture and identity, and hope to address racism soon, but hard to know where to start, since there are so many places I can. You can check out http://99ppp.wordpress.com/2008/05/01/culture-division-or-diversity/ and it would like go in a similar vein.
I agree, no need for high-blood pressure, and there is always a blog to blow some steam.

yes! the media is promoting racism….
thats the only reason we still have it today…
there was this video on youtube… about tyra banks…
and she was saying that there was no african american models on the cover of magazines and the only reason that they have an african america models is to look “cool”
so i would shout out to the world!… YES THE MEDIA PROMOTES RACISM! AND THAT RACISM STILL HASNT DISAPPEARED YET!
AND THAT I BELIEVE ONE OF THE ONLY REASON WE STILL HAVE THAT CONCEPT TODAY IS THAT THE MEDIA PROMOTES IT!!!!!
i also understand your frustration… and its stupid that people actually play the race card and still even think about the concept of race…
i know that its a social thing… but cant we just look past that and celebrate our differences, here? i swear it makes me so mad when they think that way…
i also talk about race and celebrating our difference, instead of using them against us…. i am happy that you see that racism is still here and that it still has disappeared like everyone else… its actually swept under the rug…. and thats not the way to fix the problem here!
